Bert comes armed with more than 15 years experience in illustration, interactive media and motion graphics - and with enthusiasm, humour and originality fully intact. Having studied graphic design and interior architecture, he worked as a designer in Belgium and The Netherlands before settling in London in 1997 and going freelance in 2002. He enjoys coffee and chocolate, the characters of Hergé, baking and lying in hammocks on holiday.
After studying graphic design and interior architecture in Antwerp and Ghent (Belgium), Bert quickly moved in the emerging new media industry of websites and cd-roms as a freelancer in 1995 whilst occupying a full-time job as a teacher for about 9 months and moved to Amsterdam in 1996 to work for Neroc as a multi-media designer.
Towards the end of 1997 it was time for a change when he moved to London (UK) and has been living and working there since. After a position as senior-designer at Wickedweb on various new-media projects (mainly blue-chip), Bert started in the post-production industry at DGP in 1999, through a cd-rom project at a time when they started their new DVD division allowing him to merge his experience in interactive media with video based projects and working on titles for the likes of Warner Bros., Universal, etc.
While still working on (mainly video based) cd-roms, he also got the opportunity to work on a variety of video graphics for DGP's clients, including 3D. In the autumn of 2002 he decided to draw on his years of experience, to set up as an independent designer. This has resulted so far in an interesting mix of projects ranging from interactive CD and DVD projects to animation and 3D for commercials, both in and outside the UK.
After 14 years of city life he has now traded up to a more peaceful countryside life and continues to work from West-Cork in Ireland in between pottering around in the garden and walks on the beach.
Hand- and digitally rendered [2D & 3D] character development, game characters, advertisement storylines and product illustration.
Trained way back in the dark ages of traditional media and graphic design, Bert is still able to hold - and produce something with - a pencil. Over the years he has adapted to embrace the modern age, and can offer fully digitally created imagery or combination of both - in 2 & 3D, animated or not, for use in on- and offline media. We did mention he's versatile, didn't we?
Graphics creation, compositing & animation for broadcast, commercials, corporate video & events and large screen projections.
Intros and outros, those spinning whizzy things on the tellybox? Fake racecars mixed with real ones? With a range of styles and experience, Bert can put 1+1 together and come up with 3.
Generating ideas and concepts; designing graphics, templates, games, menus and interactive environments; and building/programming these for DVD-Video and CD-ROM.
From conception through implementation - with experience on tiny one-man projects up to those with a cast of thousands, Bert can brainstorm and mould and produce and script the right experience for the audience at hand. Be it good old-fashioned CD-ROM or maxing out the interactivity on DVD-Video and hybrid discs.
